According to the World Bank, PM2.5 pollution in Armenia caused over 3,000 deaths and cost the country 10.6% of its GDP in 2019

The air pollution crisis in Yerevan cannot be ignored any longer. PM2.5—the tiny particle that’s 1/30th the width of a human hair—penetrates deep into our lungs and bloodstream, causing inflammation, respiratory diseases, heart conditions, and even premature death. During winter, the levels of PM2.5 exceed the maximum WHO guideline by at least 10, and on the 24th December it was exceeded by 58 times at 291µm/m3:

In Armenia, PM2.5 originates from dangerous sources, carrying harmful compounds such as those released from burning plastics, heavy metals, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and more.

Children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are at the greatest risk. Without immediate and decisive government intervention, we face an escalating health crisis that will claim more lives and burden our economy further.

Cleaner air isn’t just a dream; it’s a necessity. Let’s demand urgent action now—for our health, for our future, and for our city.
