Vehicles are a leading cause of air pollution in Armenia, responsible for 90% of Yerevan’s air pollution.
Yet, 90% of vehicles lack catalytic converters, which are essential for reducing harmful emissions.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, when traffic significantly decreased, dust particles dropped by 41% in just one month, proving how much air quality depends on vehicle emissions.
What do they do?

Without them, vehicle emissions will continue to harm public health and the environment.
Governments worldwide have implemented catalytic converter laws to address air pollution decades ago:
- United States: Required since 1975
- European Union: Enforced since 1993
- Canada: Mandated in 1988
- Australia: Required since 1986
It’s time for Armenia to do the same.
